This is a very helpful and enlightening video. It is called The Great Porn Experiment. The video is about the effect that pornography is having on men and on the wider culture. As many of you probably struggle with pornography in addition to crossdressing, I think this is a helpful video to watch. But even if, like me, you don’t struggle with pornography, this is still a powerful video to watch. I have found that many of the things he says about pornography also apply to me and crossdressing, crossdressing fiction, and looking at pictures of crossdressers.

The point about “novelty” especially hit home to me. With crossdressing I always needed to do something new. I always needed some new clothing to try on. The stuff I had already wore wasn’t too exciting. I always needed to see myself in a new outfit. I always needed to try one thing that I hadn’t tried before, like a new kind of cosmetic, or some jewelry that I hadn’t worn. Or I always needed to find new pictures of crossdressers. The old ones I had already seen weren’t exciting anymore. Or I always needed to find a new arousing crossdressing fiction story online. The old ones that I already read didn’t cut it. The point about dopamine and clicking fits well here. I would switch to new stories before even finishing one. I would just jump around to each basic arousing idea in each story and get pleasure the faster I switched to new ideas in new stories. I sadly remember many times of being in the fog of sexual pleasure and addiction, having 20 different tabs open in my internet browser all on youtube one day, or another day maybe 20 tabs open to different photos in Flickr, or another day 20 different crossdressing stories open at once. Addiction is powerful. And destructive.

Also I thought it was quite the insight in the video to say that really all addictions are the same disease. They are not separate things. They are all triggering the dopamine system. This means that crossdressing addiction and pornography addiction and drug addiction are all doing the same thing. The assessment for determining addiction is helpful. The 4 C’s – Inability to control use, compulsion to use, continued use despite adverse consequences, and craving. These might not apply to all crossdressers, in fact I am sure that they don’t. But they definitely used to apply to me.

This video makes me terribly depressed for us and our culture, and I include myself in that for my own past addictions. Lord Jesus help us from this mess we are in! At least the video gave good news that many people are giving up porn. I hope this video stirs up some of you to give up porn or crossdressing or both!
